BloodCast #9:
Kissyman
August 12, 2007 _ Scott Sigler

KISSYMAN is a story I was inspired to write after reading “Devil in a Blue Dress” by Walter Mosley. This is not the hard-science horror stuff that is my bread and butter, but rather a hard-boiled detective style take on an illegal immigrant from another era in America’s history. No science (unless you count psychology), but it does, indeed, get us back on the “lots and lots of violence” tip.

I for one love Walter Mosley, but just thought you should also know that he does some sci-fi too. He wrote a book called Futureland, a semi-apocalyptic collection of near-future short stories. I liked his hard-boiled detective stuff, so it surprised me as well when I found a Walter Mosley book in the sci-fi section of Atlantic. It’s been a few years since I read it, but I recall it being pretty good.

Dysfunctional Organism

Man this story kicks ass BUT it didn’t sound like this was all there was to tell bout this sick herman the German. Maybe a part II, 8 years later??????

I think there will be a Part II, if not a Part III. Ze German character really can’t last that long - sooner or later, his laughter will catch up with him.

Xenophanes

Loved it.

I enjoyed this story–lots of character. Some nice touches, like the narrator not understanding American humour and the insane laughter (hard to miss that bit). Scott, you keep surprising me by entertaining me with genres I don’t usually go in for (horror, sports, detectives, etc.).

Andrew, glad you liked it. Getting a lot of requests for more Kissyman stories, so I will provide.
